Anticipation is part of my fractal art series Emotions, Thoughts, and Feelings. The aim of this series is to represent in fractal form the different emotions and thoughts that we think and feel each day.
I was quite keen on designing the image for this emotion. You know the feeling you get when you're so eager to see someone you haven't seen in months or even years, or perhaps when someone you love has a gift for you, and you can't wait to see what it is. Maybe it's the first time you drove a car or the time you had to give a speech in front of hundreds of people.
While all of the above situations have eagerness associated with them, it's the jitters that come with anticipation that sets it apart as a truly unique and engaging feeling. Merriam Webster defines this emotion as "pleasurable expectation" and the Cambridge Dictionary explains it as "a feeling of excitement about something that is going to happen in the near future."
I tried to encapsulate these definitions and more in this fractal. The bright whites bring the excitement and energy of the feeling. The curved lines highlight the eager expectation and slightly nervous feeling. Overall, the piece gives a very positive, exciting, and enthusiastic vibe that completely envelops this emotion.
